Technician - Electromechanical

Karman Industries

Karman Industries is a Torrance-based thermal technology company building the backbone for giga-scale AI infrastructure. Founded by a team from SpaceX, Rocket Lab, and GE, Karman is moving beyond legacy cooling with the launch of the HPU (Heat Processing Unit)—a new category of thermal architecture designed for the 100kW+ rack era.

The HPU shrinks the exterior mechanical yard by up to 80% while reducing peak energy consumption by 10%+. Unlike traditional systems, the Karman HPU provides zero-water (WUE 0) cooling that ensures high-TDP GPUs and HBM4 memory stay at optimal thermal setpoints without throttling.

Founded in 2024, we’re a fast-growing team of passionate professionals dedicated to making a tangible impact on the future of humanity. We design, build, and test real hardware, and we lead with ownership: you’ll own your work from concept to hardware and help shape how we scale. Our values are Ownership, Performance Excellence, Radical Transparency, and Customer-Centricity.

Join us in our mission to transform the industry and contribute to a more sustainable world.

Technician, Electromechanical

Karman is hiring an Electrical Technician to build, wire and test the electrical systems on our hardware. You will fabricate harnesses, build control panels, install sensors and instrumentation, and support testing of supercritical CO₂ rotating machinery, cryogenic heat exchangers and compressor systems. You will work with electrical and controls engineers and the mechanical build team, and help us stand up our electrical build and test capability. This role is on-site and reports into Manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Build and install wire harnesses, cables, control panels and electrical enclosures to drawings, schematics and build travelers.

• Install, terminate and check sensors, instrumentation, motors, drives (VFDs), power distribution and controls hardware.

• Solder, crimp and terminate to industry workmanship standards, and perform continuity, insulation and functional checks.

• Troubleshoot electrical and controls faults on hardware and test stands using multimeters, oscilloscopes and other test equipment.

• Support commissioning and testing of machines, test stands and facility equipment, including data acquisition and instrumentation setup.

• Record build and test data accurately, and maintain traceability for components and assemblies.

• Give feedback to engineers on design, wiring and process improvements, and help write and improve work instructions.

• Keep your work area clean, organized and safe, and follow all EHS and electrical safety procedures, including lockout/tagout.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus a trade certificate, apprenticeship or technical training in electronics or electrical work, or equivalent experience.

• 3+ years of experience in electrical assembly, wiring or technician work in aerospace, energy, industrial controls or similar manufacturing.

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and drawings.

• Skilled in soldering, crimping and terminating, and with common electrical test equipment.

• Careful, detail-oriented and committed to documentation and quality.

• Understanding of electrical safety practices for low- and high-voltage systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with IPC/WHMA-A-620 and J-STD-001 workmanship standards, or certification.

• Experience with industrial controls, PLCs, VFDs, motor controls or high-power electrical systems.

• Experience with sensors, instrumentation and data acquisition systems.

• Experience supporting test cells, test stands or commissioning of industrial equipment.

• Familiarity with ERP or MES systems and electronic build records.

• Experience in a startup or early-stage manufacturing environment.
