About This Role

About the Company

General Matter is enriching uranium in America.

Our mission is to restore our country’s ability to make nuclear fuel. Our fuel will help power AI, manufacturing, and other critical industries. It will power our next generation of reactors. Ultimately, it will power our national ambitions.

We were incubated by Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and we are backed by top tier investors.

Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.

We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability and transparency.

About This Role

We’re looking for a Systems Administrator to support our growing team in a fast-paced, engineering-driven environment. This is a hands-on, broad-scope role that spans both on-prem infrastructure and Microsoft 365 / Azure environments, ensuring our systems are secure, reliable, and built for scale.

You’ll work closely with our engineering, IT, and operations teams to support critical business systems and technical workloads — from cloud identity management to high-performance engineering desktops and simulation clusters. This role blends deep technical work with IT Service Management (ITSM) process development, helping build a scalable, high-performing IT foundation.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and maintain on-prem infrastructure, including Linux and Windows servers, storage, networking, and virtualization.
  • Administer and optimize Microsoft 365 and Azure services (Azure AD, Intune, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams).
  • Manage identity, access, endpoint compliance, and system security across hybrid environments.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring and alerting systems across on-prem and cloud platforms (e.g., Datadog, Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Azure Monitor).
  • Support engineering and simulation applications (CAD, CAM, CFD) on both Windows and Linux platforms — ensuring uptime, performance, and license management.
  • Automate operational workflows and provisioning using PowerShell, Python, or similar scripting tools.
  • Contribute to ITSM initiatives, including incident, change, and configuration management processes.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to deploy and maintain critical infrastructure and applications.
  • Participate in helpdesk and escalation support — we operate as an all-hands-on-deck team.
  • Maintain thorough documentation, SOPs, and change records to support reliability and compliance.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience as a System Administrator or equivalent technical role.
  • Hands-on experience with both Linux and Windows servers in hybrid (on-prem + cloud) environments.
  • Strong background managing on-prem infrastructure — servers, virtualization, storage, and networking.
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Intune, and Exchange Online.
  • Proficiency in identity management, endpoint security, and monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across diverse systems.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Interest in structured operations and ITSM best practices.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other regulated technical environments.
  • Familiarity with GCC High or FedRAMP environments.
  • Experience supporting engineering software such as SolidWorks, CATIA, ANSYS, or Siemens NX.
  • Knowledge of VMware, Hyper-V, and enterprise storage or networking design.
  • Experience with automation/scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Background in ITIL, service delivery, or process implementation.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
