At Reflect, you will be expected to move fast, have a lot of ownership and, most importantly, be able to effect change. If this excites you, we are interested in hearing about your best work and accomplishments across any domain and from any points in your life.
About the Role
As a Shop Hand, you’ll keep Reflect’s engineering shop running at full speed. You’ll maintain tools and equipment, organize the workspace, help stage hardware for builds and tests, and support engineers with simple fabrication, assembly, and prep tasks. This role is hands-on, fast-moving, and focused on creating a clean, safe, and highly functional environment that enables high-velocity hardware development.
You don’t need advanced machining or engineering experience—just excellent attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and a strong sense of ownership and organization over the shop.
Responsibilities
• Keep the shop organized, clean, and fully stocked with tools, PPE, consumables, and materials
• Maintain equipment: basic upkeep, calibration checks, light repairs, tool condition checks
• Stage parts, hardware, tools, and fixtures for upcoming builds and tests
• Assist with basic fabrication tasks (cutting, sanding, drilling, deburring, labeling, simple assemblies)
• Run shop equipment with guidance (bandsaw, drill press, sanders, manual tools, basic 3D printers)
• Manage hardware inventory: sorting, restocking, labeling, and kitting
• Prepare workstations for engineers and builders to reduce setup time and increase throughput
• Support build engineers with simple tasks on jigs, fixtures, carts, and testing setups
• Handle material runs, pickups, and drop-offs when required
• Maintain a safe environment by following and reinforcing safety procedures
Ideal Qualifications
• Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, organized workspace
• Comfortable with basic hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
• Hands-on experience in a shop, makerspace, garage, or similar environment
• Ability to lift, move, and stage hardware and materials safely
• Fast learner with strong initiative—proactively solves problems and improves workflows
• Reliable, consistent, and able to execute repetitive tasks with high quality
• Bonus: experience with basic fabrication, 3D printing, simple CAD, or hardware assembly
Even if you don’t meet 100% of the above qualifications, we are likely still interested in hearing from you. Hiring exceptional individuals is our #1 priority, and we believe that exceptional people often have highly unusual backgrounds.
We are also interested in carving out unique roles for unconventional people that we are excited about working with.
