HVAC TECHNICIAN (STARLINK) - LEVEL 4/5
SpaceX is leveraging our experience building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world’s largest satellite constellation and most advanced broadband internet system. We provide reliable and fast internet to millions of users worldwide, including populations with little or no connectivity, rural communities, aircraft, watercraft, and places where existing services are unreliable, too expensive, or disconnected by natural disasters. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system, thousands of satellites and consumer antennae that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing. The Starlink team is seeking out the best-in-class professionals to maximize Starlink’s potential for communities and businesses around the globe.
As an HVAC Technician on the Starlink team, you will be a vital part of maintaining the critical infrastructure that enables SpaceX to continue building and improving the world's most advanced satellite constellation and internet service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain and repair HVAC support equipment on facilities systems including air handlers, chilled water, condenser pumps, cooling towers, valves, filters, etc.
- Maintain preventative maintenance schedule on building HVAC systems
- Collaborate with engineering teams and leaders to maintain systems in peak operating condition
- Follow all regulations and appropriate SpaceX procedures including quality policies, safety policies, and standards per Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Perform ductwork modifications and various repairs
- Perform brazing, soldering, evacuation and charging of various refrigerants
- Perform water piping and insulation modifications and repairs
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 5+ years of professional experience working with HVAC systems
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in HVAC technology
- 7+ years of professional experience working with HVAC, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems
- Knowledge in the following areas: HVAC, electrical safety, pneumatic principles, tubing, pipe-fittings, rotating machinery (pumps, air compressors, etc.), and a variety of mechanical fasteners
- Universal certification from the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI)
- Knowledge of high pressure gas, flammable gas, and refrigeration gases
- Professional experience maintaining high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and standard air handling unit (AHU) filtration systems
- Basic understanding of the theory of operation for refrigeration, motors, and mechanics
- Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment while adhering to company policies, quality policies, and industry standards
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing to work all shifts, overtime, and weekends as needed
- Must be willing to train on 1st shift for initial 30 days (with potential to go up to 60 days) and work one of the following Alternating Work Schedule shifts upon completion of training:
- Schedule A: 5:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Sunday – Tuesday + every other Wednesday)
- Schedule B: 5:00 AM – 5:30 PM (Thursday – Saturday + every other Wednesday)
- Schedule C: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM (Sunday – Tuesday + every other Wednesday)
- Schedule D: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM (Thursday – Saturday + every other Wednesday)
- Schedule may vary depending on site operational needs and flexibility is required regarding overtime and weekend support
- Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions in small opening and climbing hand over hand, lifting 25 lbs. unassisted, and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights
- Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, and noise
- Must be able to work onsite, remote work not considered
